I know that Lindsay Lohan has been the focus of far too many jokes to count but it strikes me that it must be awfully sad, at age 26, to have so much self-inflicted drama in your life. But it is what it is and it’s fair to say that these days, Lindsay and the IRS are at odds.
According to a December story in The Huffington Post, the IRS froze Lohan’s bank accounts because of a reported $234,000 in unpaid taxes between 2009 and 2010. The article, relying – it appears – on unnamed friends and family as their sources implies that Lindsay’s high standards of living are at the root of her problems. On the other hand, Lindsay’s ever-classy father, Michael Lohan, blames her mother and wonders where the $1 million she earned from posing for Playboy went. What parent hasn’t wondered that very same thing? Please.
She was able to pay off the 2009 tax liability thanks to a $100,000 gift from that tiger blood-drinking friend of entertainment websites, Charlie Sheen. Winning! Unfortunately for Lindsay, she neglected to thank Charlie for coming to her rescue until he publicly asked her to at least acknowledge what he’d done. Lindsay, where are your manners?
And just when you thought her tax situation might be taking a turn for the better, according to entertainment websites, Lohan will now have to pay gift taxes of between $25,000 and $50,000 on furniture valued at approximately $250,000 given to her by the producers of the Bravo television show, “Million Dollar Decorator,” when she taped an episode of the show.
Apparently, she wouldn’t finish filming the episode and, as a result, the producers (who normally pay the taxes on this type of gift) decided they wouldn’t do it in this case and stuck Lindsay with the tax bill. According to Radar Online, a celebrity gossip site, Bravo even tried to get Lindsay to return the furniture but Lohan had all the furniture shipped to a secret storage location. Lindsay, has no one ever told you that karma will get you in the end?
Although I’d like to hope that this is the one and only article I will ever write about Lindsay Lohan and her financial woes, both you and I know that’s probably unlikely to occur. And that’s too bad because – while flipping through my 1,000 cable channels the other day in an attempt to find something, anything to watch – I came across Lindsay Lohan in The Parent Trap (the 1998 remake by Walt Disney Pictures of its 1961 film of the same name starring Hayley Mills). The 11-year old Lindsay Lohan in this film can act and does it well. This girl had talent and one can only hope for her sake that she solves her financial woes, gets her life back on track and starts making good movies again. If not, you’ll be reading another one of these articles by me, probably sooner rather than later.
